What an exotic-looking piece you've created. I enjoyed reading your description and learning about the history. You have made this famous alley-way all your own. v

Tim Allen replied:

Thank you Carole. The entire market is quite magical but this wall seems to transcend even that it seems. Again, I appreciate the kind words.

Thank you, Jack. Who would have guessed, all those years ago when movie goers started placing gum on this wall, that this alley would literally become world renowned. Go figure.

Artist's Description

This is a view under Pike Place Market in Seattle of Post Alley with The Alibi Room bar to the right, the Post Alley sign near the bottom of the hill above the alley and, to the left outside The Market Theater, is the famed "Bubblegum Wall", a wall covered with bubblegum.

Story has it that years ago the Market Theater proprietors got tired of cleaning bubblegum off the backs, undersides and armrests of the theater seats at the end of each day so asked theater patrons to please leave their bubblegum outside before entering the theater. Well, it appears the patrons, possibly in protest, stuck their bubblegum to the brick wall outside and the rest is history. I heard they tried cleaning the gum off once and there was an uproar so it is back.

Needless to say here, it has become a destination in and of itself there at the market.
